Firstly, tungsten carbide has extremely high hardness and wear resistance. At room temperature, its hardness can reach 69 to 81 HRC, and its wear resistance performance is also quite good. Therefore, the cutting speed of the tool made of this material can be 4 to 7 times faster than the high-speed steel tool, and the service life is not lower than the latter, but 5 to 80 times longer than the high-speed steel tool, which can be used for cutting high hardness materials with a hardness of up to 50HRC.
Secondly, Cemented Carbide also has high strength and modulus of elasticity. Its compressive strength reaches 6000MPa, and its modulus of elasticity can reach up to 735MPa, which is higher than that of high-speed steel materials. However, the flexural strength of Cemented Carbide is low, only 1000 to 3000MPa.
Thirdly, cemented carbide has good corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and high temperature resistance. Knives made of cemented carbide are usually very resistant to corrosion caused by the atmosphere, acids, alkalis, etc., and are not prone to oxidation, and they can also remain hard at a high temperature of 900 to 1,000 degrees.
Fourthly, Cemented Carbide has a very small coefficient of linear expansion, which leads to a stable shape dimension when machining.
Fifthly, products shaped by machining with cemented carbide usually cannot be machined and resharpened again. This is because the brittleness of hard and gold is high, and it is easy to cause fragmentation when regrinding, so only electric spark, wire cutting, electrolytic grinding and other electrical processing or special grinding wheel grinding can be used.
Commonly used tungsten carbide materials
Dongguan SPP Industry Company).———-Commonly used tungsten carbide materials are tungsten-cobalt, tungsten-titanium-cobalt and tungsten-titanium-tantalum. The main components of tungsten-cobalt cemented carbide are tungsten carbide and cobalt, and its different grades are expressed by the code YG plus the percentage ratio of cobalt content. The main components of tungsten-titanium-cobalt cemented carbide are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide and cobalt. The brand name is YT plus the percentage ratio of titanium carbide content. Tungsten-titanium-tantalum tungsten carbide is also known as general-purpose cemented carbide or universal cemented carbide, and its main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide, niobium carbide and cobalt. The brand name is expressed by YW plus ordinal number. (This grade refers to the cemented carbide grade manufactured by Dongguan SPP Industry Company).
Application of tungsten carbide material
The most widely used area of tungsten carbide material is as a cutting tool material. Manufacturers can use tungsten carbide material to make different types of cutting tools, such as turning tools, milling cutters, planing cutters, and drills, which suit various machining processes and workpiece materials. Among them, tungsten-cobalt tungsten carbide is suitable for short-chip machining of ferrous metals and coloured metals as well as the machining of non-metallic materials; tungsten-titanium-cobalt tungsten carbide is more suitable for long-chip machining of ferrous metals such as steel. Among similar alloys, if the cobalt content is on the high side, it is more suitable for rough machining; if the cobalt content is on the low side, it is more suitable for finishing.

Moulds made of tungsten carbide material can better withstand impact and have better impact toughness, fracture toughness, fatigue strength, flexural strength and wear resistance. Usually, the cemented carbide used for making moulds is selected from medium and high cobalt and medium and coarse grain grades, such as YG15C, etc. (This grade refers to Dongguan City, China). In addition, Cemented Carbide is also commonly used in the manufacture of gauges and wear-resistant components, especially in wear-resistant parts such as wear-prone surface inlays and components for gauges, precision bearings for grinding machines, guide plates and guide rods for centreless grinding machines, and centrepieces for lathes. The field of wear parts is also quite wide, Sampsistemi Industries manufactures carbide wear parts mainly used in oil and gas, pharmaceutical industry, metal packaging, can manufacturing, ammunition manufacturing, crushing, grinding, granulating, recycling, bending and shaping, wire forming, pipe manufacturing and other fields.
